The Cave Singers subtly dropped a great record called Invitation Songs in September of 2007 on Matador. Unfortunately for the band, the record came out amid an influx of similar music from the likes of Deer Tick and The Roadside Graves, among many others from the "indie folk/country" genre. Just because that was the hot sound, doesn't take away from the quality music of the Cave Singers. Luckily, in 2009 as synth-pop still reins supreme, The Cave Singers might be the organic reprieve everyone is looking for (see Tallest Man in 2008). Their sophomore record Welcome Joy (August 18, Matador), promises an influx of maturity and nuance into their writing, and from the sound of Beach House (above) it should be a forward thinking and excellent follow-up. Did we mention how awesome Matador's blog is?
