This solid squad of beards is Lexington, KY/Washington DC's own purveyors of cutting edge boot stomping American music, These United States. Straddling the line between folk and rock the Best Of '08 contributors' third album Everything Touches Everything, comes out Sept. 1 on Colorado-based United Interests. We've been spinning this record for several weeks right now, and for the most part, it hits right where it needs to. We can't help but feel that the larger tunes would absolutely kill live, while the more mellow songs sound better on record. Yet, this is an album with lyrical substance, which in many ways, serves as its saving point. At times, reviews and blogs often tend to disregard lyrical content (guilty here) and go mainly on gut reaction and emotion to jot down initial thoughts. Sometimes, it's better for bands that this happens. Yet, we're glad to say that with These United States their songs contain substance and value beyond simple and accessible chord structures. We haven't seen them live but the they have booked dates with Lucero and Deer Tick - promising indeed. Dates after the jump.
